The impact of European programs in a compulsory secondary school

The IES Sácilis is a Compulsory Secondary Education center that has been working as IES for a little more than a decade. It is located in Pedro Abad, a town of less than 3000 inhabitants of the province of Córdoba.

Despite its youth, this IES has an important, valued and extensive career in various European programs: Youth, Comenius, and Erasmus +

Impact of European programs in the Center.

  • In the student body

The center is very small, so all students are involved in the projects that are developed.

The socio-cultural level of the students is medium/low so that their participation provides vital experiences important for their personal learning, enhances the increase of their motivation, knowledge of other cultures and improves their basic skills. We must highlight as a special achievement the reduction of school dropouts and the improvement in the learning of disadvantaged young people due to a disability or compensatory.

  • In organizations and individuals that do not participate directly, whether at local, regional, national or European level.

The project has meant establishing greater synergies and links between different sectors of education. A collaboration agreement has been established with the CEP of Córdoba and with the Faculty of Education Sciences of Córdoba to participate in training sessions aimed at students of Teaching and Social Education. It has also fostered collaboration with other European universities, Cervantes Institutes and Education Attachments abroad.

  • In the diffusion

All the results and materials have been shared in the Twinspaces linked to the projects, in the results platform of the Erasmus + projects , in the School Education Gateway platform which is translated into 23 different languages, in articles published in the National eTwinning Support service , in the Faculty of Education Sciences of Córdoba, in the Teacher Center of Córdoba and in various International Conferences of Media Education. This guarantees, among other possibilities, its possible use by other people and other institutions.

  • In innovation

The active and inclusive, collaborative and participatory methodology used in developed European projects has encouraged both the involvement and training of teachers and the incorporation of an open curriculum based on innovative practices and strategies, with new methodologies and new lines of work. The result of this process is that the Institute is currently a  Learning Community and that it has just opened a  Radio Sácilis  school radio.

  • On the sustainability of the project: management project

One of the great milestones of sustainability of this project was the assumption of European projects as one of the 3 fundamental pillars that govern the educational activities of the center.

  • Resources

We must point out the economic benefits and material and/or didactic resources that contribute to participate in this type of projects and that has meant being able to provide the center with the best resources for the students: digital whiteboards, mixer, musical instruments, cameras of video and photos, computers.
